Heartland - Season 1
1.10 Born to Run
Star jockey Nick Harwell arrives at Heatland to train the unwilling Ben and starts flirting with Lou, who seems to be interested in him. When Amy learns that Nick has mainly come to Heartland because he wants to buy Spartan, she must decide to either sell the horse or participate with him in the fall tournament.
Mallory is afraid her favourite horse Copper might be sold, so she runs away. With Ty and Jack at the roundup and all the events at Heartland, nobody misses the girl until Mallory rings Lou up and tells her about a plan to sell a group of wild mustangs to a butchery. The whole Heartland team must join forces to free the horses. It turns out that Wes, a discontented member of Tim's staff, is behind it. He is immediately dismissed.
Encouraged by Scott, Lou dares to mount a horse - for the first time since her childhood.
1.11 Thicker Than Water
Finally, Amy invites her father Tim to pay her a visit her at the ranch. Noticing how deeply Amy and Tim are united in their common love for horses, Lou tries to impress her estranged father by showing off her skills as manager. In this way, she hopes to conceal her fear of horses which evolved from her watching Tim's accident during a (horse) panic way back.
Jack evades the family reunion by going fishing with Lisa. Ty is frustrated because Amy is not aware of her feelings for him.
Lou fears Tim might ask too much of Amy when she watches him urge Amy to go a risk with a difficult cutting-horse. She wonders whether Tim has really changed. Amy on the other hand is astonished when she learns that Lou used to be a horse lover in her childhood.
1.12 Rising From the Ashes
A sudden barn fire not only hurts Jack but almost results in Heartland's economic ruin since the barn wasn't insured- at the very moment when Lou intends to return to her previous life in New York.
Val, hoping to get the opportunity to enlarge her own ranch Briar Ridge, offers to buy some of Jack's land.
1.13 Coming Together
When her domineering mother threatens to sell her horse Apollo, Ashley reluctantly asks Amy for help. Even though both girls plan to participate in the same jumping tournament. Having been tipped off by Cal, Spartan's violent owner, Mr. Mallen, turns up at the show, claiming his property in the belief that the horse is now valuable. Later on Ashley leaves the competition at the very last minute, against her mother's will.
Ty's probation has ended, thus he is free to leave Heartland.
