Wild Card - Season 1

1.01. Pilot

Zoe Busiek, a Las Vegas blackjack dealer, becomes the legal guardian angel to the three kids of her sister, who passed away in a car accident. The insurance company refuses to pay any financial settlement on the basis of evidences, claiming that the accident was deliberately caused by Zoe’s sister. Zoe won’t believe that her sister commited suicide. She starts her own investigation and soon convinces Dan Lennox and Sophia Mason, the fraud investigators, to revive their case. Not only can she prove that the accident wasn’t her sister’s fault, she also gets a job as a fraud investigator.

 

1.02. The Learning Curve

Zoe's first case. Due to her efforts to stop crime in her neighborhood, Marylyn Lee’s house is set afire by local gang members. Her sister is killed and Marilyn is badly burned. Zoe’s partner Dan has reservations. Of all cases, this one is too close to her own tragedy. Eventually, she resolves his doubts. To help Marilyn, Zoe and Dan go and interview a 12 year old neighbor boy named Jimmy. Jimmy knew the woman who was killed and he has special knowledge of Marilyn's possessions, which were lost in the fire. During the interview Jimmy is arrested for arson.

Sophia has trouble with her boyfriend. Zoe's youngest niece Hannah protests for a crossing guard at her school who lives in her car.

 

1.03. Con Artistry

Zoe and Dan have to investigate the theft of a painting. At the owner’s house they meet Lisa Jennings, an art dealer. Zoe is not only surprised to find out that Dan was engaged to the woman but also that he hadn’t recognized Lisa’s name earlier. Later Dan admits that he knew his ex-fiancee as Debbie Fairmen. Zoe’s doubts about Dan's objectiveness grow as the investigation progresses. Dan, who always works by the book, was convicted of art theft and imprisoned for 3 years in a French prison . His partner was Lisa. Can Zoe still trust him?

Marcos asks Zoe out on a date but she turns him down the first time. Confronted by his ex-fiance, Dan finally discovers that he has romantic feelings for Zoe, but when he goes to tell her, he sees Zoe and Marcos kissing.

1.04. Hell Week

During an after hour visit to the local zoo, a young woman falls into the lion's den. She is badly injured and falls into a coma. Sophia and Zoe soon discover that the zoo visit was part of a sorority initiation. Now they have to find out if the zoo's security guard is responsible for the accident or if it was a prank gone wrong.

Dan is annoyed with his new secretary who tries to do her best but is a catastrophe. The otherwise cynical Dan struggles with the termination of her employement.

Cliff overhears Zoe talking about how hard it is being a parent but takes it the wrong way, so he starts looking for his dad.
